Depicts the life, working method and achievement of Henry Hobson Richardson, the first great American architect. During the decade of the 1880's Richardson's style proved so suited to America's needs and so expressive of America's ideals that "Richardsonian" became our national style of building. Focuses on certain outstandingly beautiful suburban buildings Richardson designed in and around Boston between 1867 and 1886. Illustrates seventeen of Richardson's surviving buildings including Boston's world-famous Trinity Church.
