- The first Arab immigrants, mainly from Syria and Lebanon, began coming to this country about 100 years ago. Although many came and clung to their native ways, many searched, in the American way, for opportunities in this land of theirs. Presents some of the contributions in medicine, mathematics, astronomy and writing done by many Arab descendants. An area in Detroit were the largest concentration of Arabs live, is studied for its attitude toward acculturation, keeping the old ways and new moves toward bilingual education.
