- (Traditional World of Islam series, Part 6) Explores Islamic mysticism concentrating in particular on Sufism. The basic goal of the Sufi mystic is the constant quest for a deep spiritual understanding of God. It is only this quest that can provide genuine happiness, maturity and freedom, and it is a quest motivated by love--the prime force over all things in the universe according to Sufism. Discusses the role of special Sufi guides or masters whose task it is to help improve the spiritual consciousness of others. The Sufi believes that "to the righteous man, god's choice is the only choice."
