Indira Gandhi: A Heritage of Power

- Brought up in the shadow and influence of her father and grandfather, Indira Gandhi grew up to a legacy of great power and prestige. In a country where women have been totally subordinated by men, Indira became the first woman elected Prime Minister of a major country. After Mrs. Gandhi imposed curbs on civil liberties, she was interviewed, responding with apparent candor and charm to some very searching questions about her political acts. She hints that the West does not understand India or her own situation.
