- (Odyssey series) In less than a century the Incas organized an empire that stretched over 2,000 miles from Ecuador to central Chile, an area covering more than 350,000 square miles of the most rugged terrain of South America. Examines the work of three archaeologists excavating in Peru. John Hyslop is studying the Inca road system, more than 10,000 miles of paved roads through some of the highest mountains and most rugged terrain in the world. Craig Morris is investigating Huanuco Pampa, a large administrative center built 12,000 feet above sea level.
