Based on George Orwell's political fable which examines allegorically the illusion and disillusion of a Utopian society, this British production was the first film to use animation in a less than charming fashion. Theatre audiences in 1955 could not believe that a cartoon could contain serious messages and painful scenes. The farm animals band together to evict an oppressive farmer and take over the operation of the farm themselves. All is peace and tranquility until the leader of the pigs develops into a dictator. After all, "All animals are equal; it's just that some animals are more equal than others!"
