- A new concept in caring for the terminally ill is to try to make life for the patient as easy as possible, free of physical and emotional pain, and with constant care and attention given in a home-like atmosphere. Filmed at Hillhaven Hospice in Tucson, Arizona, one of three experimental centers funded by the National Cancer Institute, members of the staff explain how they help their patients on a day-to-day basis with special medical and therapeutic care. Although a hospice prepares patients and the families for the inevitable end, the patient is encouraged to live out the final weeks, months or years to the fullest extent.
