Angela's Island
- 1978 ----- color ----- 22 min ----- 16mm
- Presents the poignant, real-life story of eleven-year-old Angela's struggle to overcome the problems of a paraplegic. At Goldwater Hospital on Roosevelt Island, Angela's rehabilitation counselor, herself handicapped by polio, works with Angela to help her learn to cope and function in society. Angela's mother recalls the tragedy of Angela's birth and the desertion of her father who believed his child was mentally retarded (she is not). Dr. Bertrand Bensam, Chief of Rehabilitation Services, talks about Angela and the other disabled. Includes a touching sidelight by a couple, both confined to wheelchairs, who stole away from the hospital to get married.
