- (Image India series) Presents some major and minor samskara-sacraments of the first five years of a Tengalai Sri-Vaisnava brahmin boy's life: the prenatal rite designed for "securing a son" (pumsabana) and "for safe delivery" (simantam: lit. "parting the hair"); the "birth rite" (jatakarman) and "name-giving" (namakarana); the "first feeding of solid food" (annaprasana) at six months and rite of "tonsure" (caula) that is combined with the "commencement of education" (vidyarambha) at about five years of age.
