- Contrasts the lives of two farm families--one in North Dakota, the Runnings who live comfortably and eat well; the other in India, the Parshads who live without electricity or running water and are undernourished and susceptible to disease. Many experts feel that the food crisis comes down to overconsumption on one side and overpopulation on the other. Food is becoming a political commodity. The question no one seems to be able to answer is how much does the United States owe the hungry of the world. Do we have an obligation to feed them, and if we don't, who will?
