- In Nigeria (and other countries now engaged in rapid economic and social change) there are those who cannot take it: the dislocation, convulsion, cross-cultural shock created by development. Such people become the patients of Dr. Thomas A. Lambo, either in the psychiatric wards of the modern hospital or in the simple huts of Aro. Dr. Lambo works closely with the headman, the healer and the villagers to combine Western techniques with ancient rituals. Dr. Lambo feels the Aro idea might be useful to the rest of the world: the community mental health approach.
