- (Phase Equilibria series) Illustrates the relationship between the relative positions of free energy curves and the natures of phase diagrams or phase transformations. Several cases are considered: a single-lens diagram, a maximum in the solidus and liquidus lines (positive azeotrope), a two-phase eutectic, a two-phase peritectic, a three-phase eutectic and a three-phase peritectic. Illustrates applications of the lever-rule and gives two examples of industrial importance (the iron-carbon and alumina-magnesia systems) which incorporate several of the transformations.
