- (Life on Earth series, Part 16) Reptiles have scales and horns for protective purposes, to frighten predators and to save their skin from wear and tear. Some species of ancient lizards shed their legs gradually evolving into snakes. David Attenborough studies the feeding and mating habits of different types concentrating on the rattlesnake. Archaeologists have discovered traces of an ancient creature which links reptiles to birds.
